About

Bhawal National Park is a prominent eco-tourism reservation and national park situated in Gazipur District, approximately 40 kilometers north of Dhaka along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Established in 1974 and officially declared a national park in 1982, it covers a vast reserve area of over 5,022 hectares (around 12,400 acres). The park is famous for its dense, naturally grown 'Sal' (Shorea robusta) forest tract, serving as a critical green respiratory zone for the Dhaka region. Its topography consists of low undulating hills known locally as 'Chalas' separated by shallow depressions and stream valleys called 'Baids'. The forest ecosystem supports a diverse flora and fauna, including various species of birds, monkeys, wild boars, squirrels, and reptiles. The park features multiple recreational facilities including peaceful artificial lakes with paddle boating options, rest houses, designated picnic spots, walking trails through deep forest canopies, and observation towers. Bhawal National Park remains one of the most accessible and favored weekend getaways for nature lovers, hikers, and families seeking a serene green retreat near the capital.
