About
Mahamaya Lake, recognized as the second-largest man-made lake in Bangladesh after Kaptai Lake, is a breathtakingly scenic reservoir located in Mirsharai Upazila of Chattogram District. Inaugurated in 2010 primarily as an irrigation and rubber dam project, it has quickly flourished into a premier destination for eco-tourism. Spanning across approximately 11 square kilometers of crystal-clear water, the lake is beautifully nestled amidst rows of rolling green mountain ridges and tropical valleys. One of the main highlights of visiting Mahamaya Lake is exploring its winding water channels via motorized engine boats or traditional wooden country boats, which take travelers deep into the quiet folds of the hills where the stunning Mahamaya Waterfall resides, cascading softly down a hidden rocky cliff. For adventure seekers, Mahamaya is highly famous for being one of the top destinations in Bangladesh for professional kayaking, allowing travelers to paddle across the peaceful waters independently. The surrounding Eco-Park area features well-paved trails, hanging bridge infrastructures, and designated spots for camping and picnics under the open sky. Its prime location just a few kilometers off the Dhaka-Chattogram highway makes it an exceptionally convenient and refreshing getaway for travelers seeking a quick plunge into pristine nature.
